Release Title: Trauma Team Release Date: May 16, 2010 Platform: Wii Genre C & Video Games Nintendo Wii Games .
For Trauma Team, Atlus has nearly wiped the slate clean, and started over with a new foundation that includes much of what you usually think Trauma Center is all about - but adds even more. Trauma Team's big selling point is that it, naturally, focuses on a team of medical professionals instead of just a couple of supersurgeons.

The Trauma Center series has become quite a cult hit since its beginnings in 2004, but the actual game is maybe too faithful to the operating room experience: Nerve-wracking time limits and an increasing desire for perfection left some players with a bitter taste, but others took to it and declared it the best medical-themed game series around. Well, hey, to be honest, it is. And with the upcoming Trauma Team, it seems like it still will be, but for reasons that even critics should take note of.
Past Trauma Center games have been mostly iterative, improving just a few things here and there while keeping the same basic look and feel. For Trauma Team, Atlus has nearly wiped the slate clean, and started over with a new foundation that includes much of what you usually think Trauma Center is all about -- but adds even more. Trauma Team's big selling point is that it, naturally, focuses on a team of medical professionals instead of just a couple of supersurgeons. There is at least one surgeon, though, as well as the forensic analyst, the orthopedic doctor, the paramedic, the endoscopic surgeon (featuring gameplay resembling '90s FPS Descent as set in a colon), and so on.
The intense, arcade-like nature of Trauma Center has been lessened somewhat in Trauma Team, mostly due to the removal of time limits in most of the character's missions -- even in the nitty-gritty surgeries. One exception is when playing as the EMT Maria, which is a traditional timed set of challenges due to the race-against-time nature of a real EMT's on-the-spot care. In every part of the game, though, general carefulness is what keeps you going; don't run a laser too long or patch up a wound too quickly and you'll come out the other end with a high score and good rating, just like always. Playing is further eased by more obvious indicators of what to do next, like highlighting the tool you'll need to use next in a procedure in case you have a brain fart and forget which icon represents the suture (I write from personal experience).
This is an all-around refresh of the series, right down to the brighter, multicolored menus (reminiscent of recent Persona games) and comic panel-style cut-scenes instead of relying on the "sliding portrait" style of character dialogue so prevalent in the other Trauma Center games. Besides that, though, what really stood out in Trauma Team to me is the game's overt attempts to shadow Capcom's Ace Attorney series, and there are a few things that typify that. First is the character design, which is a bit more eclectic than the somewhat normal-looking characters from the previous games -- especially when you have the bulky, squinty-eyed orthopedic surgeon Dr. Freebird, sporty, large-chested paramedic Maria, or the now-emofied Naomi/Nozomi.
