Workers & Resources: Soviet Republic is an economic strategy of 3Division studio, in which the task is to develop a fictitious state belonging to the Soviet republics. For this purpose, a wide range of buildings and other structures has been made available, which not only allow to create an efficient industry, but also to meet the needs of the residents.
Story
In Workers & Resources: Soviet Republic the player takes on the role of manager and his task is to develop the city. An important feature of the game is its freedom. The game does not impose specific objectives: the direction in which the state will be led is left to the player's discretion.
Mechanics
The mechanics is not very different from the standard representatives of the species. The player is taken care of by a specific area where he or she can develop his or her own country. From now on, he must develop them in such a way that he is able to earn money for himself. For this purpose, it receives a range of different types of buildings, which will allow to work out a compromise between the needs of the inhabitants and the finances of the republic. The construction of a specific building requires the collection of an appropriate amount of specific raw materials.
Of course, the whole industry will not work by itself. Each of the plants and factories must have a specific number of employees with the appropriate training. Employees must therefore have access to education in order to be able to acquire competencies relevant to a particular position. Therefore, schools should be set up in the vicinity of residential areas in order to guarantee this. In addition, employees have their needs, which grow with time. This means that the average citizen will initially be satisfied if he or she has easy access to food, but will later also demand goods such as alcohol or electronics. Whether their needs are met to the right degree affects their productivity at work. Children are also an important aspect of the economy. On the one hand, they help to maintain a sufficient number of citizens; on the other hand, if the child is under six years old and there is no kindergarten in the neighbourhood of residential areas, his parents will refuse to work.
Transport also plays an important role in the republic. Each product needs to be transported to the next plant or to a specific warehouse. The same applies to employees. If they live too far from their place of work, they will want to use public transport. The creation of an appropriate transport network is therefore necessary for the efficient functioning of the city.
Products from factories must be foamed. Prices change dynamically and depend on production costs. The sale of goods is possible in two separate markets: Eastern and Western. When selling their goods to countries behind the Iron Curtain, the player receives a payment in dollars, which must then be converted into roubles. It is therefore also up to the exchange rate to make money from it.
Technical issues
Workers & Resources: Soviet Republic puts a strong emphasis on the realism of the game. All buildings are inspired by real buildings from Soviet times. In addition, the entire graphic design is maintained in dark colors, which intensifies the impression of being in one of the Soviet republics.
