The novel falls into the genre of crime fiction, and was preceded by Koko and followed by The Throat. The book was published by Dutton, won the 1993 Bram Stoker Award and was a 1994 WFA nominee.
We looked at top mystery novels from the Mystery Writers of America, Publisher’s Weekly, and Goodreads’ highest rated mysteries of all time. As you would expect, Agatha Christie, Dashiell Hammett, and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle make the list. Maybe others might surprise you.
Honestly, I don't think I've read many mysteries set in Colonial America. However, years ago I read one historical mystery-romance by Barbara Michaels (real name Barbara Mertz, who also published as Elizabeth Peters). The book is called Patriot's Dream, and it moves between storylines set in 1976 (current to the date of publication) and about 200 years earlier.
